Drifting Makes a turn in Sweet Home

Drifters slide their tricked-out vehicles around corners, above,

on opening day at The Mill Drift Track Saturday, May 9.

The drifting exposition drew a crowd of onlookers to the

former Weyerhaeuser Mill site, where the blacktop slab has

been converted into a course for the drivers who intentionally

over-steer to skillfully slide sideways on corners, with a lot of flash

and dash.

The Mill Drift Track opened with an

exhibition of cars from all over the

Willamette Valley and beyond, sliding

around corners on the blacktop north of

24th Avenue.

Admission was free for the first day, and

the fans turned out, right. The pits were

busy.

The track will be open again July 25 for the PNW Smokeshow & Shine.
