Driver named in jetski crash that killed boy

Linn County Sheriff Jim Yon has named the driver of the jet ski that struck two small children, killing one, on July 20, at Lewis Creek Park on Foster Reservoir, east of Sweet Home.

The driver of the 2020 Sea-Doo was Antonio Cassanova-Gonzalez, 23, from Salem. Cassanova-Gonzalez has been cooperative for the entirety of the investigation, Yon said. Cassanova-Gonzalez consented to testing and no drugs or alcohol were found in his system.

Zachary Maynard, 6, died at the hospital after he was struck by the runaway jet ski and his good friend, Kennedy Swenson, also 6, was severely injured.

The investigation has been turned over to the Linn County District Attorney’s Office for review.
