Eagle Scouts receive their awards

Local Boy Scouts Alex Wilson and Jeff Stratman received their Eagle Scout awards at a ceremony in December.

The Eagle badge is the highest a Scout can earn and is presented only to those who have completed a substantial project that requires planning and execution by the Scout, usually with the help of volunteers.

Stratman and a number of volunteers renovated the entryway to Holley Church, ripping off old paneling and replacing it with wainscoting he made from that paneling.

He also replaced the doors leading into the church. He and about a dozen volunteers spent a total of 140 hours on the project.

Wilson landscaped the entrance to the Hawthorne baseball fields.

Wilson joined the Boy Scouts in 1998, earning the ranks of Tenderfoot (1999), Second Class (2000), First Class (2000) Star (2001), Life (2002) and Eagle. He’s earned 26 badges and has participated in community services activities including Bell Ringing, Scouting for Food, Christmas Tree setup, Pancake Supper, Chamber of Commerce, City Cleanup, and three fellow Scouts’ Eagle projects.

Stratman joined the Cub Scouts in 1994 and moved through the Bear, Wolf and Webelos ranks, earning all the pins available at the time. He moved to the Boy Scouts in 1998, where he earned the ranks of Tenderfoot (1998), Second Class (1999), First Class (2000), Star (2000), Life (2001) and Eagle. He’s earned 33 Boy Scout badges and his community service activities have included Scouting for Food, Christmas Tree set-up, City Cleanup, Chamber of Commerce, Bell Ringer, Foster Lake cleanup, Osage cleanup, Pancake Supper, Genealogy Landscaping, Foster Lake Bridge Building, and assisting with four other Scouts’ Eagle projects.
