Early morning fire destroys Lebanon shop

Fire destroyed a two-story shop early Friday morning, May 20, in the 31000 block of SW Fifth St., Lebanon.

The conflagration was reported at 2 a.m.

According to the Lebanon Fire District, the initial arriving unit reported that the 50-by-50-foot structure was heavily involved. Due to its severity, crews focused their efforts on protecting nearby exposures until a water supply could be established, as the blaze originated in a wooded area where water needed to be brought in on water tenders, then emptied into a portable tank.

Once the main body of the fire was extinguished, crews used a piercing nozzle to penetrate through an exterior wall due to the potential for structural collapse. The fire was brought under control at 3 a.m.

One person suffered minor smoke inhalation and was evaluated on scene, but was not transported by ambulance. No further injuries were reported.

The fire’s cause is currently under investigation.

The Lebanon Fire District was assisted on scene with water tenders from the Sweet Home and Brownsville fire departments.

The Albany Fire Department provided city coverage during the incident.
