East Linn Loggers to hold nine-man football tryouts

The East Linn Loggers will hold tryouts for the National Nineman Football League team in December and January.

Last season the Loggers finished 3-4 on the season, just missing the playoffs. That was a significant improvement over the previous season, when the Loggers went scoreless and winless.

“I am looking forward to an even better season,” said Head Coach Jesse Garcia.

The Loggers are expected to play in a league with eight other teams divided into the Willamette and McKenzie conferences. Skill levels in the league last year ranged from former PAC-10 players to some who had never played football, with most having been former high school players.

Tryouts are at noon Saturday, Dec. 3, and Jan. 7 at the Sweet Home Boys and Girls Club field on 18th Avenue. Cost is $20 for the tryout and the tryout fee will be applied to the player’s registration for those selected for the team.

Head Coach Jesse Garcia said prospective players should bring “tenacity and will to succeed,” along with cleats, and wear workout clothes.
