Edna Mae Avrit, 92, of Foster died May 3, 2008.
She was born May 16, 1916 in Marcola to Johnathan and Ruth (Shackelford) Purcell.
She and her husband purchased Foster General Store in 1946. Her husband was the postmaster from 1946 until his retirement in 1971. She ran the store and was a clerk in the post office.
Mrs. Avrit was very active in the Sweet Home chapter of Eastern Star. She enjoyed woodcarving, sewing , knitting and crochet.
She is survived by two children, Gail and husband George Mauch of Foster, and Roger and wife Maggie Avrit of Marietta, Ga.; a sister, Annave Purcell Murray of Portland; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell “Bud” Avrit; and one sister, Jewell Odette Tallman.
