Edna Richards

Nov. 18, 1919 – Nov. 8, 2010

Edna Pearl Richards, 90, of Lebanon, died Monday, Nov. 8, at her home.

She was born Nov. 18, 1919 in Birch Tree, Mo., the oldest of eight children, to Frank and Jennie (Goodman) Ledbetter. She was raised on a farm in the Birch Tree area.

She married William D. Richards on Dec. 9, 1938 in West Plains, Mo. They moved to Idaho in 1943, where Mrs. Richards began her 27-year working career as a cashier in the grocery business. They moved to Sweet Home in 1952 where she worked for Central Market as a cashier until retiring.

In 1978 they moved to Lebanon. Mr. Richards preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 2004.

Mrs. Richards was a member of the Sweet Home Gleaners, Royal Neighbors of America, Sweet Home Rebekahs and the Retail Clerks Union. She enjoyed sewing, making clothes and quilts, reading, gardening and the outdoors. She and her husband also volunteered as playground supervisors at the local elementary school, teaching children old-time playground games.

Mrs. Richards is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Steve Wade of Lebanon; brothers and sisters-in-law Edward and Jewel Ledbetter of Fruitland, Idaho and Frank and Delores Ledbetter of Hermiston; and sisters Irene Rhea of Stockton, Calif. and Lucille Todd of Albany.

She was preceded in death by her son, William E. “Bill” Richards in 2009; brothers Lloyd and Delmar Ledbetter; and sister Florence Polland.

A graveside service was held Nov. 15 at the Lebanon IOOF Cemetery.
