Edwin ‘Ed’ Leroy Luehring

Edwin L. Luehring, 83, died Dec. 19, 2005 at Twin Oaks Care Center in Sweet Home.

He was born Jan. 7, 1922 in Pomona, Calif., to Dietrich and Emma Luehring. The family later moved to Brownsville, Ore. and Ed graduated from Brownsville High School in 1940. He served in the Army in a medical detail with the 752nd AAA Gun Battalion from 1942 to 1945 on Saipan and Iwo Jima. He received the American Theater Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

He married Arlene Babington on Jan. 25, 1947 in Stevenson, Wash. They lived in Brownsville until 1956, when they moved to the Holley area where they raised Arabian horses and a variety of other farm animals.

Mr. Luehring was employed as a lathe operator at Oregon Plywood Corporation in Sweet Home from 1945 to 1963. Then he helped with the building and startup of Tomco in Cascadia where he worked until 1980. After that he continued to work on his farm on McQueen Drive until he was physically no longer able to do so.

He is survived by his children, Beth Cummings, Christine Luehring, Robert Luehring, Gary Luehring and Gene Luehring as well as four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene in 1992.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 at the Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel. Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
