The eighth-grade football team showed promise of things to come, finishing the season with a solid 6-0 record that included four shutouts.
The Tigers’ biggest win was their first, coaches Leon Olsen and Lonnie Keenon said, as they beat French Prairie, a team that had defeated Sweet Home by 20 points last year in their only loss in three years. This year’s score was 14-0, Sweet Home.
Olsen said another big win was against Cascade, the Tigers scoring on the last play of the game to take a 6-0 victory.
He said this team has gone 19-1 over three years. This year’s other two shutouts were against Stayton and North Marion.
“As a team they work hard,” Keenon said. “They’re a hardworking bunch of kids with a lot of commitment (to the game). Hard work pays off. I think we have a good group of kids coming up.”
