Eighth-graders place first, second in state track events

Eighth-grader Dakotah Keys set a state junior high school record in the long jump Saturday, June 3, with a leap of 19-8 in the inaugural state championship meet held at LaPine High School.

Keys was one of six Tigers – all eighth-graders – to compete, and one of five to take home at least two medals each.

Keys also placed second in the high jump (5-5) and anchored the 4×100 and 4×400 relays, in which Sweet Home placed third.

Ethan Rowe took second in the discus (139-0) and third in the shot (41-9).

Sean Potter was fourth in the 400 (1:00.09),

Casey Keys was 12th in the 800, with a 10-second PR of 2:31.34. Sean Hunnicutt was 10th in the 200 at 26.83.

Anthony Albright tied for ninth in the high jump at 4-10, a PR, and 11th in the long jump (15-5 1/2).

Hunnicutt, Potter and Albright also ran the relays.

Bob Combs and Lela Tami Danforth served as coaches for the Tigers.
