Eldridge Newton

Eldridge “Bud” Newton, 91, of Lebanon died at his home on Nov. 28, 2006.

He was born Oct, 17, 1915 in Sasakwa, Okla. the son of Jesse and Maggie (Miller) Newton. He lived in Arkansas during his childhood, where he received his schooling. He moved to Bend in 1935 and resided in the Bend and Gilchrist areas until 1970. While living in Central Oregon he worked for area sawmills.

Mr. Newton served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He moved to Lebanon in 1970 and worked in sawmills in the Lebanon area.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He attended the Lebanon First Assembly of God Church. He loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Newton was married to Dorothy Crouch in Reno, Nev. on July 12, 1947. She preceded him in death on May 22, 1975.

He is survived by his daughter, Zeldia Wagoner of Lebanon; brother, Stanley Newton of Washington; sister, Vesta Rhoades of Lebanon; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; brothers, Barney and Logan; and sisters, Louda Pratt, Viola Newton and Vida Summers.
