Election 2023: Editor’s Note

The May 16 election is when Oregonians will elect people to oversee local special districts – schools, fires, cemeteries and others that provide services to urban and rural residents.

Our Voter’s Guide focuses on the Sweet Home School District Board of Trustees, the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District Board of Directors, and the local candidates for the Linn-Benton Community College Board of Directors.

All candidates in these elections, both those who are in a competitive race with listed opponent(s), and those who are running unopposed were emailed questionnaires by The New Era and below are those who responded, including some who are unopposed, who have decided to answer the questions for the good of the public. Photos have been included, as they have been made available from candidates or our files.

The following School Board candidates will appear on the ballot: Zone 2 (Liberty) – Amanda Carter; Zone 3 (Foster) – Incumbent Kevin Hill and Mary Massey; Zone 4 (Cascadia): Floyd Neuschwander; Zone 5 (At Large): Incumbent Michael E. Adams and Jack Lapham; Zone 6 (Crawfordsville): Jenna Jo Northern; and Zone 9 (Sweet Home): Manuel Grajada, incumbent Dale Keene and Leon Vineyard. Five responded: Carter, Hill, Neuschwander, Adams and Vineyard.

All four candidates running for the Fire Board responded: incumbent Charlene Adams and Dave Trask, who are running for Position 2, and Jim Yon (Position 1) and Larry Johnson (Position 3 incumbent), who are unopposed.
