Elementary artists named Smokey poster contest winners

Megan Lynch of East Linn Christian Academy, Katie LeBret of Oak Heights School and Madelyn Hawken of Foster School were this year’s Grand Prize winners in the annual Smokey Bear Fire Prevention Poster Contest.

The three were among approximately 300 students from 12 third-, fourth- and fifth-grade classes who participated in the contest.

Winners not only have their posters displayed next to entrances to local forests, but they will be invited to ride on the Oregon Department of Forestry and U.S. Forest Service float in the Frontier Sportsman’s Holiday Parade this Saturday, July 11.

The Grand Prize winners’ work was painted onto sheets of plywood by Lebanon High School art students, coordinated by Cheryl Dodds.

Katie’s poster has been placed on Highway 20 across from The Point restaurant.
