Eleven Sweet Home Mat Club wrestlers placed Sunday in the Oregon Wrestling Association USA Wrestling state championships held at the state fairgrounds in Salem.
Macen Rosa was the top place-winner for Sweet Home, taking first in PeeWee 57-60.
Riley Vaughn was second in PeeWee 33-34 and Riley Vaughn was second in Bantam 45.
Third-place finishers were Jesse Landtroop in Bantam 45, Kaden Zajic in Novice 90, Braden Newport in Schoolboy 120 and Lynkin Royer in Intermediate 112.
Placing fourth were Cody Sieminski in PeeWee 40-41, Talon Temple in PeeWee 37-38 and Xander Ford in Schoolboy 70.
Tristan Spencer placed fifth at Schoolboy 91.
Also competing, but not reaching the podium, were Jackson Barringer, Samuel Barringer, Connor Ford, Jeremiah Gill, Christian Gregory, Tytus Hardee, Jacob Landtroop, Elliott Lukas, James Rasmussen, Luke Rosa, Landyn Sayers, Ashton Swanson, Gavin Walberg and Kyle Zajic.
The event drew a record number of competitors – nearly 1,200, from 133 teams.
“I’m so proud of our little guys, those young guys who competed in the state tournament,” said Mat Club Head Coach Steve Thorpe. “To go up to a tournament of that magnitude and compete the way they did, I’m very proud of them.”
