Elmira 60, Sweet Home 28
The Elmira Falcons defeated the Huskies 60-28 in girls basketball Friday night in Sweet Home.
Missing two injured starters, Annie Whitfield and Sarah Wyatt, the Huskies fell behind 12-2 in the first quarter. They fought their way back in the second to trail just 24-17 at halftime, within striking distance.
“Elmira had a good team and made good adjustments in the third quarter,” said Coach Jon Barnes.
Elmira expanded its lead to 40-24 in the third quarter.
“We just didn’t have many answers,” Barnes said, especially down two starters. “I thought the kids competed well that second quarter.”
Leading scoring was Megan Rubidoux with eight points. She had four rebounds. Graville pulled down six boards to go with four points.

Cottage Grove defeated the Huskies 57-30 on Jan. 16 in Cottage Grove.
Cottage Grove led 12-7 after one quarter and 24-17 at halftime. The Huskies stumbled in the third to trail 40-28.
The team played decently through the first half and things were clicking, but Cottage Grove outrebounded the Huskies, Barnes said. In the third, things fell apart.
Whitfield played this game on a hurting knee. Graville was out with a sprained ankle, and Wyatt left the game with an ankle injury during the first quarter.
The team, and especially Rubidoux, stepped up to fill the scoring gap, Barnes said. Rubidoux hit three three-pointers to help keep the Huskies in the game on her way to 13 total.
