Five School District certified administrator positions will turn over next year with two new principals and three new Central Office administrators.

– Supt. Keith Winslow will retire at the end of this school year, and Tom Yahraes of Big Sky, Mont., will take over.

– Elena Barton will retire as half-time student services director. Taking over is Jennifer Sedlock, who will move to Sweet Home from Jackson Hole, Wyo.

The position will be full-time, with the addition of Title I programs, which have been under the direction of the district’s curriculum position, Winslow said. Sedlock will handle special education and Title I programs.

“Our needs have grown in this district so much,” Winslow said. “It’s just important that be a full-time job.”

Sedlock attended college at Virginia Tech and then earned her master’s degree in school counseling at Oregon State University. She earned her administrator’s license at the University of Oregon.

She completed her student teaching at Calapooia Middle School in Albany, served as vice principal at Henley High School from 2008 to 2011 and was principal in 2012 before she was recruited to be principal at Jackson Hole High School.

She has a background in special education skills and alternative education, Winslow said.

– Rachel Stucky will be director of teaching and learning, which replaces the position formerly known as “director of student achievement.”

Cathy Hurowitz resigned from that position.

Stucky comes to Sweet Home from Tigard, where she worked in the same position for the past three years.

She earned her bachelor’s degree at Western Oregon Universityand her master’s degree at Portland State University. She also attended OSU and Western Washington University.

She started her career in 1987 teaching in Colombia, Winslow said. Then she worked for the Salem-Keizer School District from 1989 to 2013.

She was a bilingual teacher from 1989 to 1997. In 1997-98, she was a district Title I program assistant. She was assistant coordinator for Head Start programs and principal at Middle Grove Elementary, kindergarten through second grade, from 1999 to 2001.

She was principal at Highland Elementary School, preschool through fifth grade, from 2001 to 2007 and then Faye Wright Elementary School, preschool through fifth grade, until 2013.

– Glenna DeSouza will return to retirement after completing the year as principal at Oak Heights Elementary after Courtney Murphy resigned.

Sweet Home Junior High School Assistant Principal Josh Dargis is moving to Oak Heights.

Dargis came to Sweet Home in 2011 from Glide School District, where he was a teacher, as a teacher on special assignment, serving as athletic director. He became vice principal the following year.

“Very strong,” Winslow said of Dargis. “He’s capable of running the Junior High as a principal too. He knows every aspect of the job. He’s a great people person.”

“One of the things I know he’s excited about is working with the young kids,” Winslow said.

– Hawthorne Elementary School Principal Terry Augustadt has accepted a job as vice principal at Springfield High School, Winslow said. That will leave two open positions, Hawthorne and vice principal at Sweet Home Junior High School.

At this point, Todd Barrett remains principal at Holley, and Luke Augsburger remains principal at Foster.

High School administration remains unchanged, with Principal Ralph Brown and assistant principals Mark Looney and Steve Brown.

“I wanted to leave knowing that the district was going to be in good hands,” Winslow said. “I’m just thrilled to death with all three of these hires (at the Central Office). They have the ability and will to be part of Sweet Home, the community and the district, and enhance our learning.”
