The Husky girls basketball team slipped from an 18-17 halftime lead to lose 46-32 to Estacada at home Monday night.
“We did a really good job in the first half,” Coach Mark Tyler said. The Huskies knew going into the game they would have to contain Erickson, who scored 19 points. She was held to eight in the first half, but scored 11 in the third quarter to give Estacada a boost.
She was scoreless in the fourth quarter, but the Huskies were unable to make up Estacada’s substantial lead.
“It was a good lesson for them tonight,” Coach Tyler said. Kaci Trask and Amanda Burcham were both out of town Monday night, and the Huskies played some younger players. “They’re learning. That’s the plus to this. Hopefully, by the time league gets here, we’ll have some more players ready to go.”
Mahria Zook led the team with 11 points. Kendra Greene scored eight; Teresa Lewis, seven; Mallory Carlson, two; Nicole Burnside, two; Chelsea Hackworth, one; and Cindy Jones, one.
Thursday, the huskies lost 43-30 to Cottage Grove in the Pleasant Hill-Junction City Tournament.
Friday night, they defeated Pleasant Hill 54-53 in overtime.
“We were behind at halftime,” Coach Tyler said. They trailed 29-23. After talking about the unforced turnovers and troubles in the first half, the Huskies jumped on Pleasant Hill in the second half. They took a lead in the fourth, but Pleasant Hill came back to tie the game. The Huskies led most of overtime, trading buckets with Pleasant Hill.
