Esther Pauline Johnson, 95, a resident of Lebanon Rehabilitation and Specialty Care died Jan. 12, 2006.
She was born Aug. 7, 1910 in Berlin, Ore., the daughter of Jesse and Ida (McPherson) McKinney. She graduated from Lebanon High School and was a princess on the Strawberry Court in 1929.
She married Perry Stalcup in 1931, they resided in Hammond, Ore. and later divorced. She had worked in the shipyards in Portland during World War II. She had also worked in laundry at Fort Stevens, where she met Howard B. Johnson. They were married on July 11, 1944 in Los Angeles. They settled in Lebanon area in 1945 and resided in Berlin until moving into Lebanon in 1969. Mr. Johnson preceded her in death on March 29, 1998.
Mrs. Johnson was the first director of the Lebanon Senior Center, had taught upholstery classes through LBCC and was involved with 4-H and the extension service for many years. Esther was a member of the Lebanon First Christian Church and honorary life member of Wapiti Bowmen Club. Her favorite pastimes were quilting, crocheting, and being with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Jess an Phyllis Stalcup of Lebanon and Frank and Jane Johnson of Yakima, Wash .; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Delphia Kinsella of Sweet Home; her brother, Gene McKinney of Lebanon; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lucile Moist and brother Frank McKinney.
A memorial service was held Jan. 16 at the Lebanon Free Methodist Church. Private burial was in Powell Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to http://www.hustonjost.com
