Eunice Mickel, 88, of Sweet Home died Oct. 9, 2007 – her birthday – at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.
She was born Oct. 9, 1919 in Corvallis to Jack and Jessie (Telford) Edwards.
She graduated from Cottage Grove High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon and a master’s degree from the University of Washington.
She was married to Dr. Edwin A. Mickel from 1941 to 1956.
She worked as the Sweet Home High School librarian from 1957 to 1981.
Mrs. Mickel loved to garden and took special pride in her dahlias. She also enjoyed hiking and camping, and was a member of the Eugene Obsidians. She traveled extensively for pleasure and to visit her daughters who were living in different parts of the world. She played bridge with her friends and loved being with her family.
She is survived by her four daughters, Susan Mickel of Farmington, N.M., Ellen Stone of Hawi, Hawaii, Marilee Smith of Sweet Home, and Barbara Mickel of Bend; one sister, Lucy Jenkins of Ridgefield, Wash.; one brother, Nathan Edwards of Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Donnie Mickel and her brother, Ernest Edwards.
A memorial service was held Oct. 12 at the Sweet Home United Methodist Church, with burial at the Creswell Pioneer Cemetery.
