Eva Louella Looney, 93, of Sweet Home died Jan. 25, 2009.

She was born Feb. 20, 1915 on her family’s farm in Sweet Home to Henry (Hank) and Libbie (Godwin) Cowitz.

She was a cook for logging camps after graduating from high school. She worked in a local grocery store, walking the two miles to town and back. Mrs. Looney was a homemaker, farm hand, worked in school cafeterias and was also a substitute for custodial work.

She enjoyed raising farm animals and a bountiful garden every year. Her knack for sewing enabled her to make clothing for herself and her children. Mrs. Looney made beautiful crocheted throws and embroidered many pillow cases. For enjoyment, she loved crossword puzzles, reading and was especially talented at fishing. Serving Christ and his church were a top priority, as well as being of service to her family.

Mrs. Looney is survived by her sons, Keith and his wife Betty Looney of Sweet Home, and Glenn and his wife Dianna Looney of Sweet Home; daughter Kathleen and her husband Galyn Roth of Christmas Valley; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Nathanael B. Looney, in 2006; a child, Baby Looney, who lived only six hours after birth in 1940; and sisters Edith Wetherell in 1998 and Edna Danon in 1970.

A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m. at Liberty Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ at 18th and Long.

Memorial contributions can be made in her name to Riverside Christian Church, Camp Koinonia (43062 N. River Drive) or Northwest Christian University in Eugene.
