Freedom Hill Church invites women and girls to its “Joy in the Journey” conference from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, at 2470 Main St.

Gospel group to
perform May 3
The Bethel Mountain Band will perform at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 1042 Pleasant Valley Rd.
The event will be outside, weather permitting, so bring a chair or a blanket. Bethel Mountain specializes in “old-time” bluegrass-style gospel music. Performers include Will Barnhart, Gary Cook, Larry Knox, Tyce Pedersen, Gene Stutzman, Jerry Stutzman and Craig Ulrich.
Mother’s Day sale
to battle cancer
A Mother’s Day fundraiser for a local cancer patient will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4, at Sweet Home High School Gym.
Forty-four vendors, crafters and collectors are expected. Food will be available for sale – baked goodies, hamburger baskets, sourdough bread, jams and jellies, and more. All fees and raffle proceeds will go to a local woman battling cancer.

Carriage Me Back
May 3 in Brownsville
Brownsville’s annual “Carriage Me Back” will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, and from 12-5 p.m. on Sunday, May 4.
Enjoy a carriage ride around town while being entertained by skits based on history and flavored with artistic license before being dropped at the Moyer House for more entertainment.
Ticket are $15 for adults, and $5 for under 12 years old. Full carriage rides can be reserved (20 people) for $225. Reservations are strongly recommended.

Cheadle Lake Run
May 3 in the park
Build Lebanon Trails will host its annual Fun Run/Walk and Kids Dash from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Cheadle Lake Park (Weirich entrance).
The event includes 5K and 10K runs/walks through the park, and a half-mile kids obstacle dash open to children 10 and under. Participation in the Obstacle Dash is limited to 200.

The Sweet Home Evangelical Men’s Group will host a taco feed for the community from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, at 1347 Long St.

Lebanon Area Habitat for Humanity will hold free Do-It-Yourself Workshops over the course of the next two months to help people learn to do basic home upgrades and repairs.
The workshops will be held at the Habitat ReStore at 566 S. Main St., Lebanon, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on May 6, May 13 and June 10. Sign-ups are required. Sign up at tinyurl.com/HabitatDIYworkshops.
The April 22 workshop’s focus will be “Painting and Creative Wall Updates: Transform Your Home.”

Rural Living Day
Returns in JC
The Oregon State University Extension Small Farms Program announced the return of Rural Living Day, to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at Junction City High School, 1135 W 6th Ave.
The program is an opportunity for rural landowners and stewards to learn about a variety of
subjects such as composting, weed management, soils, tree identification, septic systems,
chainsaw safety, food preservation and more.
Morning refreshments will be provided, but registrants should bring their own lunch or plan accordingly.

Sweet Home Evangelical Church will host an eight-week class from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through June 24, at 1347 Long St.
Every person who knows Jesus has a unique assignment in the world shaped by their walk with the Lord, the urgency of evangelism and the giftings they have. This class helps you learn about your kingdom assignment by allowing God to partner with you and be a blessing to others.

Beautification Committee
needs volunteers
The Sweet Home Beautification Team is seeking volunteers to help maintain the meridian strips on Main Street. Volunteers for weeding and planting are particularly needed for May 13.
Work days are: Tuesday, May 13 – plant the downtown median strip; Wednesday, May 14 – plant Hwy. 228 (8:30 a.m.), plant Shea Point (10:30 a.m.), plant Clover Park (2:30 p.m.).
Safety vests and trowels are provided. The committee meets on the second Thursday of every month at 10 a.m. at City Hall, 3225 Main St. Work days are the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 8:30 a.m., starting at the Key Bank parking lot on Main Street.

Test your vehicle
Linn-Benton Community College’s annual Dyno Days event will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, May 16-17, at 2000 W Oak St., Lebanon.
Event access is free. Cost for three runs on the dynamometer is $50 to measure how much torque and horsepower your vehicle can make. Food truck, industry partners and tours available.
Genealogical Society
offers free classes
Sweet Home Genealogical Society is offering free monthly classes on topics relating to family research.
The May 17 topic will be “A Trip to Ellis Island,” which will include a visual presentation and history presented by Terri Lanini.
The classes are first-come, first-served and open to all as space permits. They all begin at 11 a.m. and are held at the Genealogy Library, 1224 Kalmia St.
Each class will be approximately 45 minutes to an hour long, with time for questions at the end.

plots available
The City of Sweet Home is accepting reservations for 12 available plots in the Community Garden at Strawberry Park.
Plots are $30 a year and are first come, first serve. Sign up with Cindi or Adam at City Hall, 3225 Main St. Water is available on site.
Deliver for Meals
on Wheels
Meals on Wheels of Sweet Home is in urgent need of volunteer drivers, delivering free meals to local seniors and disabled adults in the Sweet Home area.
Delivery days are Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. The role is best suited for people available in the mid-day, as meals go out at noon. Volunteers work one to two days a week for about 2.5 hours each shift.
Meals on Wheels is managed by Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments and operated by local volunteers. Volunteers package fresh meals in the kitchen and the drivers deliver them. Many local people count on this food as a primary source of nutrition.

Museum needs help from locals
East Linn Museum is seeking volunteers and items that are needed for the operation of the museum.
The museum needs volunteers for its operations to replace retiring volunteers. New volunteers are not required to know anything about the museum or how to operate a computer. The museum operates three days a week from Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Supplies needed by the museum include: copy paper, postage stamps, legal size envelopes, paper towels, toilet paper, glass cleaner, all purpose cleaner and Ajax.

ODFW wildlife contest

The Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife invites artists to submit their work for the 2026 stamp art competitions.
The winning artists receive a $2,000 award and their artwork is used to produce collector’s stamps and other promotional items with sale proceeds benefiting Oregon’s fish, wildlife and their habitats. The three contests are:
Habitat Conservation Stamp – Art entries must feature a Strategy Species identified in the Oregon Conservation Strategy in its appropriate habitat. Not all species in the Strategy are eligible, so please use the qualifying list of species. A panel will judge artwork based on artistic composition, anatomical accuracy of the species and general appeal. Collector’s stamps, art prints and other promotional materials are produced from first-place artwork. Proceeds from product sales are used for habitat improvement, research surveys and conservation projects.
