Sweet Home Fire & Ambulance District is now accepting applications for its annual Sharing Tree event.

Forms for each child between 0 and 12 years old can be submitted by visiting the following link: https://bit.ly/4ozk5vY. Forms must be submitted by Dec. 5.

Electronics recycling

drop-off Saturday

The City of Sweet Home invites residents to dump their unwanted electronics at no charge during a free recycling event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, at City Hall, 3225 Main St.

Green Century Electronics Recycling will be there as part of the Oregon E-Cycles program to accept any of the following items: computers, TVs, printers, monitors, keyboards, mice, phones, gaming consoles, networking devices, AV equipment, cords and chargers, and miscellaneous computer components.

Linn County 

Baking Competition

Connect Linn County will host its annual Harvest Festival from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26, at Pioneer Park in Brownsville.

Pancake breakfast runs 7-10 a.m. Cost is $8/adult, $4/child. Includes pancakes, egg, sausage and juice.

Craft and food vendors will be on site from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Trunk or Treat event and kids games runs from 1-4 p.m. A costume contest will be held at 2:30 p.m. Judging for the chili cook-off and baking competition starts at 3 p.m. There will also be a “spooky” dance hall, pumpkins and food drive.

Enter your best chili ($10 registration fee) and/or Fall-themed baked goods ($5 fee). For more information about the competitions, call or text Leise at 541-729-3633.

All proceeds support Connect Linn County, whose mission is to “create opportunities for neighbors to network, and empower community transformation through volunteerism and community events.”

Halloween events

  • Sweet Home’s  Downtown Trick or Treat celebration will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31. Downtown businesses with orange posters have committed to hosting trick or treaters during that time.
  • The Sweet Home Public Library will show the movie “Hocus Pocus” from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 1101 13th Ave.
  • The Brownsville American Legion will host a haunted house from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 29 to 31, at 339 N Main St.
  • Downtown Brownsville businesses will have trick-or-treating from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31.
  • Jenna Stutsman’s Hybrid Real Estate will host a costume contest from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31 at 128 Spaulding Ave., Brownsville.
  • Holley Church will host its 20th annual Trick or Treat Street event from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, at the Boys & Girls Club, 890 18th Ave, Sweet Home.   • Hope Church will host a Trunk or Treat event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, at 890 Mountain View Rd. Put on your favorite costume and join in for a safe, family friendly event. There will be tons of candy, games, cupcake walk and lots of fun for the whole family.
  • The Bohemian Club will host an Alice in Wonderland Halloween party for adults at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at 1025 Long St. There will be a costume contest. Step into a world of curious cocktails, whimsical costumes and just the right amount of spooky fun where nothing makes sense and everything is a little mad.

Livestock Association

Fall Meeting Nov. 4

The Linn County Livestock Association will hold its fall meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Brownsville Baptist Church, 27910 Seven Mile Lane, Brownsville.

Doors open at 4:30 pm.

Dinner, featuring barbecued beef and lamb, will be at 6. Donations will be appreciated.

A wide range of topics will be on the agenda, including reports from local predator control experts, Farm Service Agency updates, a report from Linn County Commissioner Sherrie Sprenger, a report on HB 3991, reports from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, and much more.

Membership in the association is $20.

Presentation on 

headstone repair

Lebanon Museum Foundation and Lebanon Public Library will host a presentation on “The Art of Headstone Repair” on Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the library, 44 Academy St.

Preservationists David Pinyerd and Bernadette Niederer, who have repaired headstones in Lebanon’s Pioneer Cemetery more than 1,400 other old graveyards in Oregon, will speak about their work.

The principals at Historic Preservation Northwest, a small business based in Albany, David and Bernadette are both graduates of the University of Oregon’s master’s program in historic preservation.

This program is open to all and free of charge.

Vocal Masterclass and Clinic

Lebanon Community Chorus will host its third annual Masterclass and Clinic at 9 a.m. on Nov. 8 at Linn-Benton Community College’s Takena Hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.

This “open class” allows observers to listen while vocal coaches teach students. Cost for students or chorus members wanting personal lessons is $40-$50. Dr. James Redden, DMA, will work with choruses. Workshops and vocal coaching lessons will be taught by Terence Madlangbayan, Sarah Brauer, Esteban José Zúñiga Calderón and Nick Larson.

Deliver for Meals 

on Wheels

Meals on Wheels of Sweet Home is in urgent need of volunteer drivers, delivering free meals to local seniors and disabled adults in the Sweet Home area.

Delivery days are Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. The role is best suited for people available in the mid-day, as meals go out at noon. Volunteers work one to two days a week for about 2.5 hours each shift.

Meals on Wheels is managed by Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments and operated by local volunteers. Volunteers package fresh meals in the kitchen and the drivers deliver them. Many local people count on this food as a primary source of nutrition.

Museum needs help from locals

East Linn Museum is seeking volunteers and items that are needed for the operation of the museum.

The museum needs volunteers for its operations to replace retiring volunteers. New volunteers are not required to know anything about the museum or how to operate a computer. The museum operates three days a week from Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Supplies needed by the museum include: copy paper, postage stamps, legal size envelopes, paper towels, toilet paper, glass cleaner, all purpose cleaner and Ajax.

Free dinners on Mondays

Sunshine Industries invites the public to a free dinner every Monday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at 1333 Clark Mill Road. Because everyone matters.

 

Free health clinic Tuesdays

The East Linn Community Clinic is held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays at 1600 Main St. in Lebanon.

This is a medical clinic that provides primary and acute medical care for under- or uninsured individuals.  On select nights, Western U COMP-NW offers osteopathic manipulative medicine to treat chronic and acute pain.  Patients may walk in or schedule appointments.
