Ballots requesting a .5-percent income tax increase for three years were in mailboxes on Friday.
The tax increase is supposed to cover part of a shortfall in projected revenues in the current biennium in the state budget, which ends on June 30.
Without passage of the measure, the state government will make across-the-board cuts in programs, including juvenile detention centers, funding for in-home senior care, indigent defense, programs for the developmentally disabled and schools.
