For The New Era

The Linn County Fair will feature a strong Canadian flavor this year as country music singers Terri Clark and the classic rock band The Guess Who have been booked to perform as two of the concert headliners.

Up-and-coming country music singer Craig Morgan will perform as the other headliner, on Thursday, July 17, at 8:30 p.m.

“Country has been really successful for us historically and last year we did really well with classic rock,” said Tom Ordeman, a member of the Fair Board. “I expect a very successful year because of the diversity. I think we have something for everyone.”

Thirteen-time Canadian Country Music award winner Clark will hit the stage on Friday, July 18.

The Guess Who will rock out on Saturday, July 19, at 8:30 p.m. The band, which began in Winnipeg, Manitoba, was the first Canadian rock group to have a No. 1 hit –

“American Woman” – in the United States.

The Guess Who became popular in the 1960s with such hits as “No Sugar Tonight” and “Share the Land,” and has continued to perform off and on throughout four decades, producing its last big hit, “Clap for the Wolfman,” in 1974, but continuing to play until the present with an assortment of musicians.

Clark’s dynamic live performances have wowed audiences across the U.S and her latest CD, “In My Next Life,” tells some personal stories of challenges and triumphs in her life. Event organizers have tried to book her for the fair in the past, Ordeman said, but this year is the first time she has been available.

Morgan’s singles “That’s what I love about Sunday” and “Almost Home” were back-to-back No. 1 hits, and his current hit, “International Harvester,” is quickly moving up the charts.

“Terri Clark is a different type of country show than Craig Morgan,” Ordeman said. “And then we have good old fashioned classic rock.”

The 2008 Linn County Fair promises fun for the whole family. There will be Free Admission Thursday, bull riding on Friday, Wild and Wooly Saturday and Family fun on Sunday.
