Editor:
A couple of months ago I talked with Mark, the manager of Thriftway Market, about starting a Saturday Farmers Market. He agreed to let me use the east end of the parking lot through September to sell produce and only produce.
I have put in a lot of time, effort and money to try to make this a successful, true Farmers Market in Sweet Home. I made signs I put up on Saturdays, ran paid ads in papers and have had some articles in local papers. One Saturday I arranged to have a mobile library visit and they will be back this month.
Also, I asked a lady that does face painting and dresses as a clown to attend and she is a real asset to the market.
I have turned away several people who wanted to sell dry goods and they all took it gracefully with the exception of Pauline Caswell. When I told her she could not have a stall she got very irate. She has written a letter to the editor of The New Era (July 4).
Anyhow, I want to thank Mark at Thriftway and the people who have patronized the farmers market and am looking forward to having more vendors as growers have produce to sell. Also, I want to reiterate that there will be no dry goods sold as long as I am the manager.
