Oregon State Police (OSP) responded to calls of a single vehicle rollover crash on Interstate-5 near milepost 225, Aug. 31.
According to a press release, the preliminary investigation indicated a black Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling northbound on I-5 when it made an evasive maneuver to avoid a rear-end collision and lost control. Occupants inside the vehicle were all ejected, before the vehicle came to a rest on top of the operator.
The operator, Dustin Andrew Brown, 45, of Sweet Home, was declared deceased at the scene.
The passengers, Olivia Shannon Matney, 19, of Sweet Home and Matthew Jay Martinez Mendez, 19, of Sweet Home, were both transported to area hospitals with serious injuries.
According to the press releases, it is believed neither the operator nor passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
During this call, Life Flight was activated, but was forced to cancel due to airspace conflicts with a civilian drone over the crash scene.
The highway was impacted for approximately two and a half hours. OSP was assisted by Halsey Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
