Fifth-graders move on to regional spelling bee

Two Sweet Home students will compete at a regional spelling competition on May 6 at Calapooia Middle School.

The two students, Elise Holden of Oak Heights Elementary and Chase Hendrickson of Hawthorne Elementary won a District 55 competition held on April 18 at the District 55 Central Office.

Winners from the regional competition will go on to compete at a state competition in August.

Two students from each elementary school, grades one through five, were selected to compete at the district level, said Foster Principal Glenna DeSouza, who directed the event.

They included Holden and Ryan Adams from Oak Heights, Ann Logan and Amber Doles from Foster, Lily Barton and Kristin Pitts from Crawfordsville, Tressa Lovik and Dani Links from Holley and Hendrickson and Samantha Ramirez from Hawthorne.

“All students did a tremendous job during the District competition and I would like to congratulate them all for making it to the District level competition,” DeSouza said.
