Fire burns grass, brush, trees on Green Mountain line

Fire burned three-quarters of an acre of brush and trees near the Green Mountain 500 line Monday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to a report of the fire at about 1:35 p.m.

The cause remains under investigation, said Chad Calderwood, forest protection supervisor with the Oregon Department of Forestry Sweet Home Unit. A total of 17 firefighters responded from the Sweet Home Unit, Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District and Cascade Timber Consulting, which manages the land for the Hill family.

Fire danger is moderate and close to going high, Calderwood said Monday. Industrial Fire Precaution is at level one.

Officials will monitor expected rainfall this week to determine whether they can end fire season, Calderwood said. “Once this rain comes in, it’ll drop off quick.”

The Sweet Home Unit has responded to approximately 82 calls this season, he said. The Green Mountain fire was the 15th “stat” fire for the season. Stat fires are calls where firefighters take significant action.

Calderwood asked that anyone with information about the Green Mountain fire call the Sweet Home Unit.
