Sweet Home firefighters responded Sunday afternoon to a fire that severely damaged a house on Fairview Road.
Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District Batallion Chief Randy Whitfield said firefighters arrived shortly after the 4:18 p.m. call at 29237 Fairview Road to find neighbors trying to put the fire out with a garden hose.
“It looked like it started on the back porch,” Whitfield said. The flames damaged a room in the rear of the 800-square-foot home, and the rest of the house suffered smoke damage, he said. The cause was unclear, he said.
Firefighters were able to stop the fire in the attic.
“There was a lot of damage from heat,” Whitfield said. A second alarm was called, bringing in reinforcements from Brownsville, Halsey and Lebanon, he said.
The owner’s name was not immediately available.
Whitfield said damage to the building is estimated at $100,000, and damage to contents at $50,000.
