Fire destroyed the home of Tina Larsen and her 17-year-old son Saturday morning.
Firefighters responded to a report of the fire at 4:22 a.m. at 40989 Skyline Road.
No injuries were reported.
The house was a total loss, said Battalion Chief Ken Weld. The family is currently staying with relatives.
The house was insured, with damage to the structure estimated at $300,000 and the contents at $150,000.
Firefighters completed their investigation on Monday but were unable to say for certain the cause, Weld said. They believe it a “probable hot water heater problem.”
The fire was difficult to stop with no immediate water source available, Weld said. Firefighters had a water source set up quickly, but upon their arrival, the involvement of the structure and a metal roof trapping heat forced a defensive effort.
The response included 12 firefighters and seven pieces of apparatus.
