Fire destroys residence off Old Hufford

Fire destroyed a home on Old Hufford Drive early Saturday morning, Dec. 27.

Fire crews and the Linn County Sheriff’s Office responded just before 4:30 a.m. to a two-alarm call at 47225 Old Hufford Drive after a family member who lives across the ridge reported that the residence was on fire, reporting it to 911 at 4:22 a.m.

The residence on fire was located south of the Old Hufford mainline.

A total of four water tenders, three engine companies and three chief officers, including 24 firefighters and three support personnel responded to the scene.

According to a Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District statement, “water supply was a challenge due to the large footprint of the home and the remote location,” adding that approximately 45,000 gallons of water was shuttled to the scene. The fire was extinguished at 12:26 p.m.

Along with the structures, the owner lost three vehicles and a tractor, according to the SHFAD report. No civilians or firefighters were injured during the event.

County records list the owners as the Dale Crocker family.

According to SHFAD, the cause of the fire was undetermined at press time. The Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office assisted in the investigation.

Due to the intensity of the fire and the rural location, a substantial response was requested from neighboring agencies, SHFAD reported. Those agencies included the Lebanon Fire District and the Brownsville Rural Fire District.
