Fire prevention poster contest winners named

Winners were announced in the annual Smoky Bear fire prevention post contest and artworks transferred by SHHS students to large scale displays.

Grand prize winners were Tyler Collins of Oak Heights, whose poster will be shown across from The Point Restaurant; Laura Miller, Hawthorne school, Quartzville Road by Sunnyside Park; Chelsea Baker, Foster Elementary, Calapooia Road.

SHHS students who transferred the artwork from posters to life size drawings were Justin Ogbin, McKenzie Draper, Chelsea Hackworth, Andrew Rose, Haydee Romero, Alicia Moyer, Kim Parker, Casi Gibson, Katie Hopper, Megan Jarvis and Nick Reed.

This year’s contest was again coordinated by Lupe Wilson of the U.S. Forest Service and Jim Basting of the Oregon Department of Forestry.

First place winners included: D.J. Martin, Hawthorne; Tiffany Miller, Oak Heights; Shauna Harden, Foster; Jessika Stewart, Holley; Whitney Warren, East Linn Christian.

Second place winners: Chris Carpenter, Hawthorne; Caitlin Holley, Hawthorne; Bryce Roberts, Oak Heights; Avery Shamek, Oak Heights; Scottie Stockman, Foster; Ariel Anson, Foster; Jamie Swanson, Holley; Micayla Knox, East Linn Christian.

Third place: Brittany Phillips, Hawthorne; Dallas Lynn Graham, Hawthorne; Nick Hall, Oak Heights; Daniel Goughnour, Oak Heights; Emili Riggs, Foster;Vanessa Thompson, Foster; Cash Dodge, Holley; James Burkey, East Linn Christian.

Some 200 students from eight fourth and fifth grade classes took part in this year’s contest.

All poster contest winners are eligible to ride on the ODF/USFS float in the Sportsman’s Holiday parade to be held July 10 at 11 a.m.
