Fire severely damages house on 4th Avenue

Firefighters responded Sunday evening, Feb. 16, to a house on fire at 1232 4th Ave. Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District was notified of the fire about 7:13 p.m. and the department responded to find roughly 50% of the house on fire, with flames and heavy smoke visible. The occupants were outside when firefighters arrived and no injuries were reported. The fire was brought under control after about an hour and 15 minutes, with crews remaining on scene an additional hour for mop-up. SHFAD Battalion Chief Eli Harris said the cause of the fire was undetermined. He said the occupants, identified as Samatha Pimenthal and her son, reported having some issues with their electricity immediately before finding a box of clothing on fire in their carport and calling the fire department. The house was destroyed, with total damage valued at just over $200,000, Harris said. SHFAD responded with three chief officers, three fire apparatus, one medic unit and one rehab vehicle with a total of 18 personnel. They were assisted by Lebanon Fire District and Sweet Home police.
