Fire Women’s duck contest to float Saturday

Sweet Home Fire Women’s Association will hold its second annual Duck Race at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Northside Park at the north end of 11th Avenue.

Participants can purchase a duck for $5 or get five for $20. Tickets for the ducks are on sale at the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District, 1099 Long St. The ducks will be released upriver and the first 14 to cross the finish line pay off for their owners. Organizers expect between 300 and 400 ducks to make the float.

Prizes range from a pair of one-day Oregon Jamboree tickets or a “Carrot Stix” fishing rod ($150 value) to a $125 Scentsy basket, with a wide variety of exercise and beauty packages, coffee coupons and more mixed in.

Funds raised this year will go toward sponsoring a scholarship for a female high school senior who is pursuing a career in the medical field.

The ducks are expected to arrive at North Side Park around 3 p.m. There are 14 prizes for the first 14 ducks to cross the finish line.

Activities for youngsters are planned while the ducks make their float. Winners need not be present.
