Firefighters extinguish shop fire on Riggs Hill

Firefighters responded to a fire Monday morning at 27722 Riggs Hill Road.

The homeowner, Joyce Marvin, and her son and daughter-in-law, were in the main residence when they saw the shop was on fire, said Lt. Josh Bondesen.

There were no injuries and there was no damage to the home, which was 10 feet from the fire.

The call came in at 9:39 a.m. and the fire was out by 10 a.m., Bondesen said.

The cause of the fire was unknown but it started in the kitchen of a 27-foot 1989 motor home that was inside the 30-by-30-foot wood frame shop.

A fishing boat and small two-wheel-drive pickup also were in the shed. The structure and its contents were a total loss. Bondesen estimated the damage at about $25,000

Close to 20 firefighters responded, along with two fire engines from Sweet Home, two tenders, a medic unit and a command vehicle.

A second alarm, issued because of the rural location, brought an engine and tender from Lebanon, and another tender from Brownsville.

Sweet Home Police officers and Linn County Sheriff Deputies also assisted.
