First open house Tuesday for Willow/Yucca Street Neighborhood Local Improvement District

Residents of the north 18th Avenue, Willow and Yucca streets are invited to participate in open houses the city is planning for the proposed Willow and Yucca Street Neighborhood Local Improvement District.

The two meetings are being held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, and Thursday, April 29, at Sweet Home City Hall, 3225 Main St.

The meetings will be available for residents to attend in person or via the internet at

Residents of the 18th Avenue and Willow and Yucca Street neighborhood have previously received notice of a proposed Local improvement district in their neighborhood. If approved, the project would bring city water service to residents of the area and would include street and sidewalk improvements in the neighborhood.

The city previously sent out a public notice detailing each property’s potential financial impacts if the plan were approved.

The Sweet Home City Council held a public hearing at city hall on Feb. 23 on the topic of the local improvement district. A few residents of the area gave testimony. Some mentioned that they thought the project was needed in the area, but they all expressed their concerns regarding the project’s financial cost for each individual homeowner.

After hearing citizen testimony in the public hearing, city council directed city staff to make revisions to the original proposed plan and find ways to decrease the financial burden on property owners within the proposed district.

Since the February 23 meeting, city staff have made several such revisions and would like to present options to residents and gather feedback.
