Five girls compete at Meet of Champs

The girls portion of the Meet of Champions was held at Cascade High School Saturday morning. Sweet Home was represented by five girls.

Rachel Gaskey competed in the shot put and discus as did Krystle Streight. Anne Helfrich qualified and ran the 3000M. Hannah Swanson ran the intermediate hurdles. Lisa Brocard competed in three events, the long jump, triple jump, and the intermediate hurdles.

In the field, Gaskey had a lifetime PR in the discus of 118-09 which ended up placing her 3rd overall. Her mark puts her about #5 on the junior list for the discus in Sweet Home HS history. Streight had a PR in the discus also, going around 104-00. Both girls were just off their season best in the shot put and id not place.

In the 3000M, Helfrich ran a gutsy race, going out hard and hanging on for a seven second PR in 11:55.0. This placed her 12th out of 21 runners. “Anne really continues to rise to the level of competition and is running really well right now,” Coach Snow said.

Swanson and Brocard had nearly identical times in the hurdles, both having PRs by two seconds. Swanson nudged Brocard 49.10 to 49.11.

“Both were great times for these two girls,” Coach Snow said. “Hannah’s time would be the #3 frosh time in school history and Lisa’s time would be the #3 junior time in school history. Both are on the all time list, going 6 and 7.”

In the jumps, Brocard went about 14-08 which was off her season best at 15-04. In the triple, she struggled to get her mark on as she had just returned from running the hurdles.

“All the girls should be congratulated for making it to this meet and competing so well,” Coach Snow said. ” The field was high quality and they competed well in all their events.”
