Five teachers, staffers retire from district

School District 55 is experiencing five retirements this year, including two teachers and three classified employees.

Kathy Ives, sixth grade, taught for 31 years at Oak Heights Elementary.

Jeri Hurff, art, taught for 22 years, including 21 years at Sweet Home Junior High School.

Ruth Ellen Hankins, a special needs assistant at Oak Heights, worked for the district for 25 years.

Careolyn Care has worked for the district since October 1984 in a variety of jobs. She retired as an alternative education assistant at Sweet Home Junior High. She retired in summer 2008, but worked the 2008-09 school year on a special contract.

Karen Fletcher, a special needs assistant at Hawthorne Elementary School, has worked for the district since February 1990.
