Flag team thanks businesses for help

Editor:

As a member of our local VFW Post #3437, I would like to give a shout out and a huge thank you to two of our local businesses, Napa Auto Parts and Mr. Lucky’s Deli.

On Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Day, I and three other members set out in the early, very frosty morning to place our American flags out along the streets of this wonderful town in remembrance of this tragic day in our great country’s history.

But as we barely got started we discovered that the holes in the sidewalks were filled with frozen water and ice from our first couple of days of a freeze. We hadn’t thought about it and had no tools. Can’t use a blow torch because many of the holes are PVC.

So we got as far as Napa and thought of a screwdriver. The good people there gave us a chisel and hammer! Yeah!

Thank you, employees. Job well done. We continued on but found out we couldn’t get the ice chips out of the small holes with just frozen fingers. So we made it to Mr. Lucky’s Deli and they gave us a spoon to scoop the chips of ice out! Yeah! Job well done, employees! Thank you!

So thank you, Napa and Mr. Lucky’s Deli. We got all our flags out; took a while, but we made it. Thank you again for your community support, in honoring our fallen and living veterans of Pearl Harbor Day 1941.
