Floyd Carlos Kurtz, 85, of Sweet Home died April 8, 2014.
He was born Nov. 4, 1928 in Mentor, Minn. to Frank and Clara (Sather) Kurtz.
He lived in Mentor until age 19, when he moved to Tacoma, Wash., where he briefly worked for Boeing, He then worked for Longview Fiber for 10 years.
Mr. Kurtz served in the Army and was stationed in Korea from 1950 to 1952. In 1955 he leased Les’s Tavern in Mill City for two years. He then worked for the Army Corps of Engineers for 28 years before he retired. He moved to Sweet Home in 1966 where he resided the rest of his life.
Mr. Kurtz was a lifetime VFW member and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed outdoor activities and loved fishing, camping and gardening.
He is survived by step-daughters Jo Ellen Odle of Lyons; Wendy Beacham, Melana Mendez of Jefferson, and Laura Amundson of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Donald Kurtz of Georgia; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Kurtz was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Laurie Asher; and a son, Frank Kurtz.
A funeral service was held April 14 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Final burial with military honors followed at Gilliland Cemetery.
