Floyd “Junior” Smith, 73, of Salem, died at home on Nov. 27, 2007. He was born July 4, 1934 in Big Springs, Neb., to Floyd and Ardis Smith. He grew up in Sheridan and lived much of his adult life in Sweet Home where he worked for Willamette Industries.
Mr. Smith loved time spent with family and friends, had a great passion for sports, faithfully played the lottery, and enjoyed helping out on endurance riding trips. He was deeply loved by his many grandchildren for the time he gave them, just listening and being a friend, teaching them to play baseball or watching their games.
He is survived by his children, Brenda (Lad) Holan, Gary (Teresa) Smith, Rick and Karen Smith, Bill (Jeanie) Smith, Frances (Lenny) Olsen and Jae (Tammy) Mott; brothers, Donnie and Darrell Smith and Kevin Hampton; sisters, Eileen Richards and Darlene (Tom) Paris; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at the home of Gary Smith, at 594 63rd Ave NE in Salem, on July 4, 2008.
