Sweet Home Forestry Club members finished third, behind Clatskanie and Knappa, out of seven teams at the state forestry championships at Oregon State University May 2-3.
“The club did a great job representing Sweet Home,” said adviser Dustin Nichol. “I’m ver proud of the performance of the team.”
Boys who placed were: Dennis Baxter – third in compass and pacing, sixth Jack and Jill cable splicing; Nick Dishaw – fourth Jack arbor, fourth Jack and Jack crosscut, third Jack choker; Justin Wolfe – second in job interview, fourth in prepared speech, fifth in log scaling, sixth in Jack/Jack cable splice, fifth in Jack/Jill cable splice, fifth in Jack pole climb; and Konrad Tacket, sixth in tool ID.
Girls who placed were: Kourtney Dixon – fifth in first aid, first in Jill/Jill crosscut, third in Jack/Jill crosscut; Sequoia Stroup Dixon – fifth, first aid, first Jill/Jill crosscut; Kara Baker – fourth Jill/Jill crosscut, second Jack/Jill crosscut, third Jill/Jill cable splice, first power buck, fifth Jack/Jill cable splice, fifth Jill choker, second Jill axe throw; Brie Davis fourth in tool ID and Jill axe throw; Julie Morgan – second in first aid, fourth Jill/Jill cable splice, third Jill pole climb, first Jill arbor; Cayla Coonc – second in first aid, fourth Jill/Jill cable splice; Callie Baker – third Jill/Jill cable splice, sixth Jack/Jill cable splice; and Sydney Nichol – first in Jill pole climb, fourth Jill/Jill crosscut, fourth Jill arbor climb and fourth Jill choker setting.
