The Sweet Home High School Forestry Club had a great day competing at Sabin’s Forestry Skills Competition on Saturday, with several first-place finishes.
Cheryl Wilson finished first in the novice log roll, first aid and timber cruising. She was second in the open pole climb; fifth in map reading, tool identification and choker setting; and sixth in log scaling. Her points earned her Overall Jill and Technical Forester.
Kristen Tolle placed first in the Jill open pole climb, setting a PR; Jack and Jill crosscut; and Jill crosscut. She was second in hose lay and third in plant identification.
Alex Larsen placed first in the Jack and Jill crosscut, second in hose lay and fifth in the Jack crosscut.
Kourtney Dixon placed first in the novice Jill pole climb, third in the Jill crosscut and fifth in the Jack and Jill crosscut. This was her first time competing.
Brandon Courteau finished first in first aid.
Cody Froman placed fifth in hoselay.
Curtis Froman placed fifth in hoselay and third in first aid.
Macy Cockrell placed third in first aid, fourth in ax throw, fifth in hose lay and power bucking.
EJ Nichol placed fifth in hose lay.
Tim Sheehan placed second in hose lay, third in Jack and Jill crosscut, fourth in the novice log roll, fifth in Jack crosscut and fifth in the novice pole climb.
Josh picket was second in open pole climb, setting a PR; second in hose lay; and fifth in Jack and Jill crosscut.
The Forestry Club will attend the Knappa Competition on Friday.
