Former Sweet Home man dies in crash

A 23-year-old former Sweet Home resident, more recently from Lyons, was killed in a single-car accident late Sunday night near Mill City.

Driver Matthew Douglas Rowe, the only occupant in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, 46232 Lyons-Mill City Drive, according to a Sheriff’s report.

He was traveling on Lyons-Mill City Drive heading to work at the Freres Lumber Mill, Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller said. Rowe was driving a 1991 Volkswagen Golf.

“The investigation revealed that Mr. Rowe lost control of the vehicle, and the vehicle rolled over on the roadway,” Mueller said. Rowe was wearing the shoulder harness of his seatbelt but not the lap belt.

The road was closed for several hours while the Sheriff’s Office conducted its investigation.

Rowe was taken to Weddle Funeral Home in Stayton.

Rowe was a 2003 graduate of Sweet Home High School.

A service is pending at the 18th and Long Church of Christ. For time or information, call Lynn Wolfe at 367-2094.
