Foster holding cell phone fund-raiser

The Foster After School Program wants your old cell phones. The old cell phones (including the battery) are sold to GRC Wireless Recycling, which pays anywhere from 50 cents to $30 and more per phone.

On Sept. 1 it became illegal to put electronics including cell phones in the trash. Instead the electronics now need to be recycled at select stores or city drop-off centers, which charge to recycle some items.

Rich Little, director for the Foster program said people can save money and support the school by contributing to the fund-raiser.

“Money will be used to buy supplies for the After School Program with something just laying in a drawer at home,” he said.

Little said the company will wipe data, such as personal information, from the old phones. There is no cost to donate phones to the fund-raiser.

He said the hope is, “especially around Christmas, that many people who get new phones will give them their old phones.”

Cell phone collection boxes will be set up in town until Jan. 12, 2011. Drop-off points include Foster School, Sweet Home School District Offices, Thriftway, Safeway, Buzzd Coffee, Coffee Hut and Sunshine Espresso and the Sweet Home Police Department.
