Foundation announces grant changes

The Sweet Home Community Foundation has announced a change in the timeframe for its annual community grant cycle.

According to SHCF President, Bob Burford, the grant cycle will now begin each Jan. 15 and end the last day of February.

Previously, the cycle ran from Dec. 1, to Jan. 15. The change was necessitated because the foundation no longer learns how much revenue it will have available for distribution until mid-December.

“Even though this is a necessary step, we hope this change won’t cause undue hardship on local organizations that wish to apply for these grants,” Burford said.

He said the foundation’s goal is to provide funding to a wide variety of projects and activities that provide lasting improvements to the community.

Grants are given in the following categories: Children and Families, Education, Livability and Arts and Culture. Grants are available in amounts up to $2,500.

Over the last seven years the foundation has provided more than $250,000 to the long-term Sweet Home Community Endowment Fund and to local community grant projects. SHCF grants are made possible by individual contributions and continued support from the Oregon Jamboree.

The SHCF is also seeking two additional board members to represent the community as a whole.

“We are always seeking to diversify the life experiences of our board,” Burford said.

“Each of our members brings a different prospective to discussions about the needs of our community.

The time commitment is small but the positive impact to the community can be huge.”
