Fred S. Crowley, 85, of Sweet Home died Jan. 22, 2009. He was born in Portland to Fred S. and Alta (Hinshaw) Crowley.
He graduated from Rickreall High School in 1941, where his father was the principal. He also attended Oregon College of Education in Monmouth.
He married Carla Wohvert and worked at sea, returning home as often as possible. They lived in California and later moved to Crawfords-ville.
Mr. Crowley served in the U.S. Marines from 1942 to 1946. He then joined the Merchant Marines, where he was for 17 years until retiring.
He is survived by his wife, Carla Crowley of Lebanon; brother Leonard and his wife Helen Crowley of Clatskanie; one grandson; three nieces; two nephews; and many favorite animals over the years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Frank J. Crowley; and sister Bertha Brinkert.
