The Sweet Home Rock and Mineral Society will give away a commemorative keychain to those who attend the 25th annual banquet.
The idea to create keychains made from quarters with the words, “Sweet Home Rock Club 25th Anniversary 3-73” came from Jerry (Mrs. George) Mealey.
New faces and new ideas added interest to the Sportsman’s Holiday Steering Committee meeting.
Jerry Mealey suggested annually selling Sportsman’s T-shirts with slogans, rock music group “Hot Potato” threw their hat in the ring to perform, the AAU Swim Club suggested a swim-a-thon, and Western Mining Assoc. plans to bring gold panning activities.
Albert W. Taylor, 19, was arrested and charged with making excessive noise and attempting to elude an officer.
Police Chief Charles Smith said Taylor was being chased by an officer when he lost control of his car and went off the road about a quarter mile past the Green Peter Dam junction.
The chase started at 19th Avenue and reached speeds of 115 mph through Foster. A Linn County deputy assisted in the chase but lost control of his patrol car when it went off 47th Avenue and crashed into a house.

The last living charter member of the Sweet Home Rock and Mineral Society plans to display his own artistic works at the 50th Rock and Gem Show.
Lester Munts, 95, has been primarily interested in wood carving, but has some cabachons made from wood that look like stones.
This year he will display a comparison between wood and petrified wood.
Twelve Minnesota College students spent their spring break in Sweet Home helping to build homes for Habitat for Humanity. The students drove 31 hours to be part of the the organization’s third and fourth projects, one of which will belong to Juanita Crocker.
Next week, five University of Colorado students will be in town to continue the work.
The Police Department received several letters warning of a nationwide scam that’s been active for at least a year.
The letter suggests a huge commission will be paid to the recipient for providing a U.S. bank account to which foreign money can be transferred.
Victims eventually provide confidential bank account information to the suspect and/or transfer “seed money” to the suspect in order to begin the money transfer.
