Fumes blamed for fire

Fire destroyed a singlewide manufactured home in Cascadia on Oct. 19.

Resident Erika Morgan arrived home with her three daughters and smelled smoke, according to the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District fire report. They attempted to locate the cause of the smoke smell. As fire broke out in a back bedroom, all four left the house.

Morgan went to a neighbor’s house to call 911.

The house, located at 27116 High Deck Road, is owned by Gary Binning of Silverton.

Firefighters found the home 50-percent involved when they arrived. Damage was extensive, estimated at $150,000 by investigators.

After ruling out all possible sources of ignition, investigators concluded that the cause was possibly refinishing products, which had been left out in the back bedroom, spontaneously combusting.

The fire department sent 20 firefighters, two engines and three tenders to the fire. No injuries were reported.
