Fundraiser brings in cash for fireworks

A fund-raising drive by the Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce in the past week raised an estimated $2,475 that had been donated toward a fireworks display on Sportsman’s Holiday Weekend.

Sportsman’s Holiday Weekend is July 8-11. The fireworks display is set for Saturday evening, July 10.

The goal was to raise $2,000, said the chamber’s executive director Melody Jordan-Reese. Anything above that goal will go toward next year’s fireworks.

The Sweet Home Volunteer Firefighter Association will be responsible for putting on the display.

Usually, fireworks are shot off from Foster Dam, but Jordan-Reese said “We weren’t able to get permission to do that this year.”

This year they will be shot off from a “top-secret location,” Jordan-Reese said.

“It’s going to be more central. You’ll be able to see them from your backyard, from Main Street and from the lake.”

“The fundraiser helps us get bigger fireworks that will be launched higher, so you’ll be able to see them from pretty much anywhere in Sweet Home,” she said.

This week, the chamber will be raffling off two tickets to the sold-out Oregon Jamboree to one lucky winner among the people who donated to the fireworks, she said.
